For some reason I felt extremely determined to make the most of the very last Sunday of November. I planned on cramming as much into my day as possible.
To start it all off, I crawled out of bed before sunrise, and stood in awe gazing at a nearly full orange moon. It was beautiful. Everything was still and quiet as I stood on the front porch taking deep breaths of frosty cold air, in between sips of hot coffee.
The sun was about to rise, and I felt compelled to build a fire outside to keep me warm. And also because I like to burn stuff…
It was a chilly morning, being only 30°F degrees out. I drug the poor Farm Boy outside with me. He was not so thrilled about watching the sunrise while freezing. My dog Louie seemed to enjoy taking it all in though. The old boy is showing his age these days…
My long Thanksgiving weekend was much appreciated time for some rest and play. I did my normal “Thanksgiving Walk-About,” to look over the farm property and also to try and find a pine tree big enough to cut down for Christmas. A “Charlie Brown” tree, in real life! And I found one…
I roasted a 20 lb. turkey for Thanksgiving dinner (only three of us this year) and pressure canned the leftovers. For this extra effort I have jars of ready to go turkey in broth for things like turkey and homemade noodles, turkey pot pie, turkey soup, turkey and gravy to go along with mashed potatoes…. you get the idea. To me, It’s worth the extra effort.
I have been craving some beet-juice pickled eggs, so I made up a half-dozen of those as well. Good stuff.
By late afternoon on Sunday, I had just enough time left to take my horse for ride around the pastures.
My long weekend came to a close with me dragging out all of the Christmas decorations and testing Christmas lights to see if they still worked. I struggled changing out tiny fuses and checking for loose bulbs trying to get lights to work. Apparently I’ll be buying a lot of new tree lights this year… ~A
