Christmas 2020 is over! And I’m so glad… Christmas for me is always a stressful time of year. This year maybe less so, but still stressful nonetheless. How did you spend your Christmas? Did you get a ridiculously beautiful amount of snow on Christmas morning like I did?
I spent Christmas cooking, drinking and eating more food than I should have, but I gave myself a “pass” to do it with reckless abandon this year. But who am I kidding… I do that EVERY year. Go big. Don’t hold back.
The one thing I didn’t do was bake cookies. I mean really, who the hell has time for that?
After I ate all that food and drank gallons of wine, I did some quality lounging with the dogs. They wanted to watch Christmas specials on TV since it was too cold to go out and play. I gave in and obliged…
I’m not one to be able to sit still for long, so I was up and ready to go soon after my “chill-out” time with the mutts. Farm Boy and I made bets on how many of my chicken eggs would hatch on January 10th. His guess was 12, and mine was 8. There are 20 eggs total in the incubator.
I debated taking the tree down, but decided it should stay up until New Year’s day. My cat needs the entertainment…
A creative urge came over me and I decided to make a couple batches of Mead from the honey we harvested this year.
I added black tea to one batch, but not the other. I added some black raspberries that I picked over the summer to the batch without the tea. For tannin and flavoring, both batches got orange slices, juniper berries, raisins, a pinch of allspice, and a small cinnamon stick.
Next, both gallons will go into a dark closet where I will forget about them for two months, maybe three… Hopefully some magic will happen during that time.
I also sent my Elf off – back to the North Pole, with a small parting gift to thank him for all the Christmas joy he spread around the house . He seemed really happy with his gift.
I hope you had a healthy and happy Christmas – let’s hope for a fabulous New Year! (filled with lots of Mead and baby chicks) ~A
