Good Bye August

While standing in my kitchen this morning drinking coffee and stewing over how the weekends could possibly go by so fast, I also realized the month of August was done and gone as well.  Bummer.

September 22nd will bring the first day of Autumn.  I’m so not ready for this. The days are getting shorter way too fast.  And just when I was starting to love my garden, it’s almost time to say goodbye to it.

The Farmer’s Almanac is predicting a warmer than normal forecast for winter, with less rain than average, but more rain than snow. Anything could happen though – we all know that.

It’s time now for me to stress over getting enough firewood cut and put away for the cold months ahead. Putting up the firewood is a lot of work but I love burning wood all winter to heat the house.  It’s so much more cozy-feeling than electric or gas heat. And I love the smell of the hardwoods as they burn.

On Monday I will be taking the two buck goats to the livestock sale.  I’m not sure if the does are pregnant yet or not, but honestly I could care less.  I’m going to take a break from raising so many goats next year.  I want to shift my focus more to the rabbits and horses for now.

Tomatoes are still coming in strong thankfully, and I’m loving every bit of it.  The bees are still a little behind on the honey production but it should be okay. The chickens are still not laying many eggs – about two per day.  Either that, or they have a really good hiding place they’ve found to lay them in.

I’m longing to start cooking the heavier meals, soups and stews already – even though the temperatures are still in the high 70’s and 80’s!  I’ll try to be patient for now though, and just amuse myself searching through new recipes to try.

Time…. I feel like I never have enough time to get things done at home (like cleaning).  My job in the city sucks more than 10+ hours a week out of my life just for the commute, then there’s another 40 hours of work time.Morning Dew

I’ve entertained the idea of hiring a cleaning service, but I feel guilty of even using such a luxury.  Is it a luxury? Maybe I don’t deserve a spotless house unless I do the work myself?  But, it would free up more of my time to enjoy the farm and things I want to do. Right?  Would that be that so wrong? ~A

Curious - do you use a home cleaning service / cleaning person?
