The Farm Boy and I decided to check out the first annual honeybee festival (in our area) over the weekend.
We expected to see lots of honey vendors (there were a few) and lots of displays of bee and hive equipment for sale (very little).
There were a few booths with different kinds of honey for sale, and some other honey related products. The usual – candles, soaps, beeswax food wrap, etc. Flavored honey, Hemp honey…. I thought the coffee flavored honey seemed weird.
The people watching was mediocre at best, though I did see a guy wearing a camouflage kilt.
Such a bold and interesting break from traditional style…
There was also a singer playing a guitar and singing songs about Ohio. The Amish seemed to enjoy listening to him belt-out his tunes.
A couple of guys set up a tent over a hive full of bees. I don’t know what they were demonstrating; we didn’t stay to watch. But I’m sure it was interesting to sit that close to a buzzing hive full of bees if you’ve never done so before.
There were a lot of other booths that had nothing to do with honey or bees. I suspect that since it was the “first” annual honeybee festival, they needed some other items to fill in with.
Next year, it would be nice to see a Meadery selling their beverages, and more booths with foods and baked goods made with honey.
Overall I’ll say the festival was interesting, and we did learn a few new things from a couple of beekeeper attendees. ~A
