Old Gems #7

It’s been a looooong time since I posted what I call an “Old Gems” post.  I’ve forgotten how fun they are. Basically, these are just posts about food/farm/life long ago that I find fascinating and somewhat nostalgic.  And I’m not even that old, but I still find it fascinating none-the-less.  I guess maybe I’m an old soul or something.

Anyway, I came across this photo somewhere on Facebook or the internet, and it reminded me of my late Grandma, who would give this to us kids back in the day when we were not feeling well.  You remember – back in the day before you could potentially get arrested for giving your Grandchildren booze. Back when people still had common sense and all. Back in the Good. Old. Days… Now that I think about it, maybe were weren’t even sick some of the times? Anyway… Grandma would dare us to take it without making a face, so it became a contest between me and my two siblings as to who could manage to get it down with the least amount of drama…

Being the time of year when everyone around me is sneezing, hacking, coughing, snotting, and just plain gross to be around, I thought I’d whip up a batch of that old, doctor-prescribed prescription I found – just to keep on-hand in case I caught a bit of that nastiness going around.

Full Disclosure: I may have also taste-tested more than a spoon-full (or fifteen) just to be sure it was okay.  You know, that whole stupid “quality control” thing and all.  Because I had to be certain.  I wanted to absolutely assure you, my readers, that I personally found it to be fully consumable with no ill effects…  Though I will certainly not make any guarantees on the outcome for you personally.  Everyone is different after all… ; )

But if you should find yourself miserable with the flu, cold, or whatever is going around, you may just consider giving this a try (for nostalgic purposes only of course).  It might just make you forget about your nasty, whatever you have going on, for a while at least.  But please, please, please…. stay the hell away from me until you are well again.  Ok?   ~A

P.S. I hate Whiskey.  Full Disclosure.

If you hate whisky, it works equally well with tequila. (You just make a bit more, and call it a margarita. 😆)
