March days…

March has a couple significant dates that I totally look forward to each year. Specifically, the Daylight Savings time change is my favorite. I think it’s stupid, but It adds a smidgen of daylight to greet me with when I return home from work on the weekdays. So cheers to that!

Then of course there’s that whole Vernal Equinox thing, which usually signifies the end of the bullshit Northeast Ohio arctic weather. And it does appear (so far) that March will actually depart this year without delivering any of those crappy “one-last-sucker-punch” winter storms.

Everything is still brown… And dead. But any time now the trees will begin to open their buds and things will come back to life.

I’ve already heard the tree frogs singing twice now in the evenings. Yesterday morning I heard turkeys calling. And finally, the vultures are out circling around, returning from wherever it is they go during the winter months?

I was so itching to get my hands in the dirt yesterday, so I pacified myself by planting a big pot of Mesclun lettuce seeds. The bad news is the seeds are a couple of years old, so whether or not they germinate is another story. But hey, I got my hands dirty ; ) ~A
